n Uganda, most of the companies that offer internet services are well known. Some
companies avail internet connection to people by using mobile data, optic fibres or
wireless technology like Microwave or all. They use both 3G LTE and 4G LTE data
pipes and 3G/4G LTE Mi-Fi’s and routers to connect their customers to internet. The
following are the companies that offer internet services in Uganda

- Roke Telkom
Roke Telkom is a Ugandan founded telecommunications company that offers
internet services and it uses the Microwave technology to avail internet to its users
or customers. It was founded in 2006 and in the same year, it was given license by
the Uganda Communications Commission as a public service provider and public
infrastructure provider.
It has product services like Roke On the Go, Roke Protect and Roke At Home that
offer Wi-Fi and data bundles that are of high speed and quality. It also offers the
customer different options of paying for the services that include using payway, visa,
Mastercard, bank deposit, cheque and mobile money.
This telecommunications company provides internet services to the public and
institutions in the country like schools, universities, hotels, restaurants, public parks,
public libraries, homes and many more places at affordable prices country wide.
The telecommunications company is also committed to contributing to changing of
individual lives, the country’s technological development and community
development.
- Zuku
Zuku is an East African internet service provider that was founded by the Wananchi
Group owned by a Kenyan Billionaire Njeri Rionge in Nairobi, Kenya and later
launched in other East African countries including Uganda. It was founded on 12th
October, 2008. Zuku, just like Roke Telekom uses the Microwave technology to
allow customers or users get access to the internet. However, Zuku also doubles
services like Television and phone services. A customer also gets Television
channels when they pay for internet services as one package. Payments for Zuku
internet services are made through mobile money.
2.Liquid Telcom
Liquid telecom is the leading African Internet service provider company that offers
internet services in 14 African countries including Uganda. It was established by Nic
Rudnick in 2003.
This company uses the Microwave Link technology to avail internet to different
places where its required. The company goes ahead to mount a Microwave radio
antenna with direct connection to their mast in the area and then this Microwave
radio antenna connects to a Wi-Fi router in the vicinity where internet is needed thus
availing internet to devices granted access to the connection.
Besides the microwave link technology, Liquid Telecom also uses the fibre optic
and satellite technologies to offer internet services to its users and customers across
Africa. Its customers include giant mobile network operators, Internet Service
Providers and businesses of all sizes in Africa.
3. MTN
MTN is the leading telecommunications network and internet provider in Uganda
though it also offers its services to other African countries. It was founded on 21st
October, 1998.
It uses the 3G/4G LTE, Mi-Fi’s and routers that use its sim cards. It also uses the
optic fibre cable that is fixed and delivered to a place where internet is needed. The
fibre optic cable provides a super-fast internet that is reliable
4. Airtel
Airtel is an Indian multinational telecommunications and internet service provider
and the second leading telecommunications and internet service company in Uganda.
It was founded on 7th July, 1995 in New Delhi, India by Sunil Bharti Mittal.
Airtel offers internet services by using the 3G/4G LTE, Mi-Fi’s and routers that use
its sim cards and it is considered by most Ugandans as the company with the fastest
internet.
5. TruIT
TruIT is an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) company that
offers internet services in Uganda after initially starting as a web design and hosting
company. It was given license by Uganda Communications Commission in
December, 2012 as a Public Service Provider offering internet services.
It also avails an internet connectivity with super-fast speeds in areas where it is
needed especially in Kampala, Uganda’s capital where it is used. It uses the satellite
technology to provide cost effective, reliable and wide-reaching internet.
6. Smart Telecom
Smart Telecom is a telecommunications company that provides internet services in
Uganda. It was founded in March, 2014 by Industrial Promotion Services 8 years
ago.
It was first launched in Uganda and later extended to East African countries of
Burundi and Tanzania. It is not popular as the other companies but offers good
super-fast internet to where it is needed in the country.
7. Smile
Smile is a telecommunications company in Uganda that provides 4G LTE broadband
internet services. It was founded in 2007 in Mauritius and has managed to expand
to different African countries including Uganda. It was first launched in Uganda in
November, 2009.
It also uses the Mi-Fi’s and routers that use sim cards. It also offers an affordable,
reliable and super-fast internet to Ugandans.
8. Uganda Telecom
Uganda telecom is an Information and Communications Technology and network
company that provides internet services in Uganda. It was founded 22 years ago in
the year 2000 and is currently owned by the Ugandan government. It is considered
as a national fixed line, mobile and internet provider.
9. SanyuTel
SanyuTel is an Internet Service Provider company in Uganda offering internet
services. It also uses the Microwave technology to avail internet to its customers.
10. Infocom
Infocom is an Internet Service Provider that operates within Uganda only and it
offers internet connection and services to its users or customers. It has been in the
business of offering internet for over 15 years in Uganda and it’s a fully licensed
company by the Uganda Communications Commission as a Public Service Provider.
11. iWayAfrica
iWayAfrica is a broadband and Information Technology company that offers
complete business internet services for all types of businesses be it small or big in
Uganda.
It is among the giant leading African Internet Service Providers that have been in the
business for over 45 years and was first launched in Uganda in 1995.
It operates in over 40 African countries where it avails reliable and broadband
internet services. It uses the satellite, fibre optic and wireless technologies to avail
internet to its customers.
12. Franscom
Franscom is an Internet Service Provider company in Uganda that offers internet
services to the public and businesses. It avails the internet services to all types and
sizes of business with super-fast internet connection
