The leading polluters of the environment seem to have built their hegemony in the world despite multiple conferences and issuances of threats regarding degradation of the ecosystem. However, these super power economies have decided to give naught heed to the alarming situation. Every year non-renewable resources worth trillions of dollars are extracted from poor countries which are utilized for profiting their businesses. However underdeveloped countries like Pakistan suffer in the form of urban flooding and aberrant rising of sea level. These countries do not have enough resources which can prop the economy. Consequently, seeds of pollution sown by developed countries are harvested by underdeveloped countries in the form of unbearable consequences.
“By polluting the oceans, not mitigating CO2 emissions and destroying our biodiversity, we are killing our planet. Let us face it, there is no planet B.” “We are the first generation to feel the effect of climate change and the last generation who can do something about it.” “Believe in the power of your own voice.
It is absurd to see countries emitting tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere convene, chair the meeting, and put forward suggestions regarding how to cope with the growing sway of climate change. They give zero effort to reduce the upswell use of gases which influence the greenhouse effect, consequently forcing the earth to shoulder the burdens of its implications.
It is believed that the average temperature of the earth is gradually rising, which on the macro level could cast many detrimental effects. Temperature changes we are observing right now is the result of what our predecessor have done with the environment and we are currently following their footsteps and contributing our part in the degradation of environment, either in the form of burning coal or utilizing the resources that lead to the fragmentation of the ozone layer.
Climate change is a slow eating process. The temperature which was altered centuries ago showed its aftermath in the form of the aberrant rising of sea level, alterations in the patterns of wind and rain coupled with stretching of seasons in different parts of the world. Climate change is a serious threat, which would continue to affect the life of people and cause serious problems to their countries. In short, none of the region could escape from this calamity unless countries build strength to withstand this problem collectively.
The question now arises of how we could hinder the growing influence of the temperature of the earth? what measures can we take? What policies could bring favorable and efficient results? I will now list some measures that include both the macro and the micro of the courses of actions that can and should be taken:
- Replacing non-renewable resources with renewable could lessen the burden of extortionate resources. Moreover, renewable resources are environment friendly and don’t pose any threat to the environment.
- Launching of efficient transport facilities because it has been seen automobile emits large tons of harmful gases in the environment. Introducing vehicles based on ecofriendly principles will halt the progress of the greenhouse effect.
- Afforestation is one the most efficient method to halt the surge of harmful gases in the environment because trees absorb much of the carbon dioxide during the process of photosynthesis.
Climate change is a serious problem and therefore it should be taken as a serious threat. Alternatively, it will not be long before the planet becomes inhospitable.
